When something happens, most people fall into one of these two extremes.

Either they drown in the situation or they resist the situation

The emotions usually felt range from:

Drowning

Worry
Fear
Doubt
...

Resisting

Anger
Frustration
Jealousy
...

and are accompanied by thoughts such as:

Drowning

"What's going to happen to ..."
"Oh no this bad thing is going to happen."
"I don't know what I should do."
...


Resisting

"Why are they doing this to me."
"This shouldn't be happening to me."
"Why don't I get to ..."
...


As long as you remain in a state of drowning or resisting, you are effectively feeding the situation you are trying to get rid of.

So instead of allowing the situation to resolve itself, you are actually holding it in place or even making it bigger.

Every teacher and teaching will try to help you take a step back and become the witness.

In becoming the witness, you create a space of acceptance and allowing.

This means that whatever the situation, feelings or emotions. They are accepted and can be here for as long as they need to be.

Since you are now no longer drowning in the situation or fighting it. You are no longer feeding it your energy.

This is when the situation or emotion can start burning it's own energy and eventually dissipate.

You'll start noticing that the emotions become lighter and that the situation will start resolving itself.

People will start acting differently or you'll get new insights in how to deal with the situation.

How the situation resolves itself not important. What is important is that you can find a place of totally accepting what is.

The better you get at this, the easier and more effortless your life will become.
You'll experience more peace and joy and most importantly, you'll be free to live your own life instead of being lived by negative mind patterns.
